That would help.
Everytime I read the contents of my survival pack I’m reminded of the movie Dr Strangelove and the air farce pilot reading off their survival kit contents. Great movie if you’ve never had the pleasure.
Guest,
Never fear, the tax rebate is coming soon and you’ve got your dough.

Sounds like an awesome place.
Where are you headed in April?
Anybody hearing any rumors on the movie? Haven’t heard a peep about it.
Wow, so many looks, no votes.
SF,
I’d have to agree with you.
I’m into summit hiking so I’d suggest ticking off the state of Ga’s highest elevation (Brasstown Bald), very good hike, very light if any other trail traffic, and a terrific view.
FYI, the visitors center at the top is closed during winter however, the road all the way to the parking area is open (as of Dec 06) and the trail was in good shape.
After a year of hiking around the alligators I wish I had a video camera. It would have become quite a documentary of the wildlife in this one area. Every week there’s something new to discover and I’ve not made at least 30 trips to this area on the base. For weeks I’ll go with no gator sitings but will see otter, beaver, coyotes, deer, boar, fox, then suddenly 12 gators will be out the next week.
What pains me more is watching another documentary “Lords of the Everglades” tonight and wishing I had done it first.
I only hike on foot around the Gators, with kids or my wife we’re in the truck.
Better watch out, he was SAS (reserves).
This is a good debate. It’s interesting to see how much dogs mean to their owners and rightly so. The war between parents of kids with no dog and owners of dogs with kids is always assured to get heated.
I had a lot more on this comment but decided it would only escalate the fury so I’ll just leave it neutral.
Bob’s Toast
I think I’ve had that a few dozen times,
also, roasted beef jerky on a stick works well.
I wonder if Backpacker is going to do a feature story on this event as they have with disappearances on other trails over the last couple of years. I think once the facts are in and it’s found out the depth of his crimes this would make a very good article, better than the guy who bummed and stole his way along the AT, then finally got tossed in jail.

Question: Does the recent violence on trails prompt people to begin carrying protective items, or just stay off remote trails when alone? This is really a shame.
