Trip Report: The drive to the trail head was interesting due to Hurricane Irene washing out many of the local roads. Thankfully our driver was from the area. The TH was in good shape and we set off on the trail. The trail was steep right out of the lot. We were scrambling and nearly hand climbing right away. The elevation gain was drastic. The trail was basically boulders and roots, all of which were slick. each step had to be certain. There were a few view points along the way of the 'aks and the day was clear, we could see for miles. As we came to the trail split right to the peak left to the pond, we went left to set camp and slack pack the peak. The trail was no a creek bed, muddy and rocky, head down watching the steps. we arrived at the pond and it was worth the effort, a pristine water with a few campsites along its edge. Of course previous hikers had to leave trash behind at our site. makes no sense. We bagged it and set up camp right along the lake. What a spot, views of the lake and of the mountain. We had the place to ourselves accept for some locals swimming, they left by sunset. a quiet night was enjoyed and we were met by a great sunrise.
