    Is that place in Kentucky?

I saw a repeat of it. Can’t believe they let that guy out of prison – and he goes right back to his old tricks.

Although I am skeptical of where and what this money is actually going to, if the profit from these raised fees does, in deed, go to the park, then I can’t think of a better place for my money to go. However, if they see the need for raising the entry fees for these parks, then I would like to see the preservation of such places also increasing. Let’s use that money to spread the word out about such things like preservation and conservation that would ultimately help ALL parks!

I am fan. Been reading these write-ups the last few weeks and it makes me want a job with the NPS. Thanks for the tip.

I suppose there are a few hikes I’d like to keep to myself – but the majority are fair game to the community.

sounds like a brown recluse – did you ever figure out the species? I know someone that had a similiar experience from a spider bite at an AT shelter.

crash of the financial markets, no gasoline in the Southeast … this is definitely a timely discussion.

And GSMNP is in the process and nearly finished removing the chain link fences from the backcountry shelters. This makes me wonder about their timing.

And my reply which may help others:

Well dude, you have three boys – so I’d get a three-man ’cause you are likely to need the space. Go to this link at Backpacker – very handy

    http://www.backpacker.com/gear/gear_finder/gear_finder_results/?type=tents&x=21&y=6

You tell Backpacker.com what you want and it suggests a tent. I own a REI, North Face, Sierra Design, Eureka, MSR, and Coleman tent. No shit, I’m a gear junkie. Basically all serve different purposes by weight, price, room, etc. The link above will help you through the bullshit. What tent I like entirely depends on who I am with, how far I am hiking, and how long I’m out. Let me know what you pull the trigger on.

If I were you, I think I’d go northbound at that time of year – although it will probably not make a huge difference with the bugs.

Looks like this attack took place just south of Perisburg not far from Dismal Creek Falls. Unfortunately his release from prison was mandatory:
