Agreed. Great site.
It’s good because it’s simple – food, shelter, water. That’s undervalued in this day and age.
Is this for real? Lots of speculation, but I still haven’t heard of any firm commitments for this to hit the theater.
I don’t camp in the winter without a blazing fire.
I’m in the market too. Looking for a 3-5 lb, weekend pack. Any suggestions are welcome. Would prefer that it has a decent hip belt and set of shoulder straps and has some outside pockets for easy access to the critical stuff (ie. TP). I’m tired of lugging around a 7 lb pack – although it has been durable as hell. Just need to lighten the load.
Dude, that guy was wacked. I’m pretty off the wall myself – and that guy puts me to shame.
Just got a rip off pair of crocks at Kroger. They are by far the lightest camp shoe I could ever carry. I am quite curious to see if they don’t fall apart after a weekend in the backcountry.
The movie still hasn’t made it to my humble town – and I doubt it ever will. Guess I’ll wait for the DVD. It seems to have limited distribution. You’d expect someone as well known and connected in Hollywood to have better distribution for the movie. It was a best seller for God’s sake.
McCandless gets a bad rap. Hell, all the kid did was live life to the max. It’s what drove him. What’s wrong with that? The fact that he died was an unexpected consequence, but everything I’ve read about the guy makes me think he knew it was part of the risk and I believe he accepted that.
Yeah, man. I’m done with the 50lbs.+ loads. That gig has played itself out. There are too many lightweight options out there now, and I enjoy the experience a lot more when I don’t take the kitchen sink – especially on short weekend trips.
Dude, I love those shows. I’d have a beer with either one of them, but I have to say that Bear has the edge. I agree with you on that.
Avoid the Burrell’s Ford area like the plague – or get through it as fast as possible. It’s a mob scene – especially this time of year.
Let me see if I have this right….

NO CLUE! C’mon, this area is surrounded by water including Lake Jocassee and the Whitewater River. Geez.
CRT = very cool. Fishing, swimming, and a fairly easy/moderate trail. I highly recommend it. Peace.
If I run into Bigfoot, I intend to tackle him and shave his back.
