Trip Report: |
This is one of several trails that I grew up hiking and have done several dozen times. On this particular occassion my daughter was training for a backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with the venture scouts so we made a trip to the Cumberland Mountain State Park every Monday before our Venture Scout meetings so she could hike and practice before her big trip in June. We typically started out at the sign next to the boat dock. We would hike past the rental cabins and stop off at the big rock outcroping to have a picnic then continue to the swinging bridge. Inevitably my daughter always hiked faster than me and she would run and jump on the swining bridge multiple times because she was fascinated by it. After horseplaying for a few minutes we would continue hiking. There are several good spots to view the lake and boat docks as you walk along this side. Just as you come to the bridge by the boat docks there is a trail which climbs up the hill and leads to a parking lot next to the swimming pool or you could continue straight which becomes the lake trail which is what we had to do because the bridge was being repaired. After hiking an extra mile or more we finally made it passed the resturaunt and back to the parking area at our car in time to get to our meeting. |
