Trip Report: |
Today I had to drive my daughter to Livingston High School to take her Act test to go to college. Since the test started at 8 am and ended at 12 pm I figured I would check out the Standing Stone State Park that was nearby. It gave me a good excuse to go hiking as a way to pass the time while I waited for her to get done. Since I had never been there before the first thing I had to do was find it on my Garmin. Afterwards I drove through the park twice to just look around and then after discovering the Lake trail I decided I should be able to hike it in the amount of time that I had to kill. So I parked below the dam and crossed the suspension bridge. That was very cool I took the steps up to the top and admired the lake for a minute before proceeding up the trail. The trail winds around and can be a bit steep but it was no different than a section hike I did earlier this summer on the Appalachian trail. At the top I got to see the lodge and recreation building the trail crossed the road a couple of times and followed the road for a short portion before going back to the shore of the lake where it followed close by and eventually ended up back at the bottom of the dam. Lucky for me my daughter was about ten minutes late getting out of her test because I was worried I'd be late but it all worked out and I got to see a new state park and hike a new trail which was a great experience for me. |
