Trip Report: Our appalachian trail adventure this time began with dropping off packages at three different points along the at trail to be picked up later by me and my daughter kimi as we progressed along the AT trail. My daughter kimi decided to join me for this trip even though she is a couple of months along with her first pregnancy. So it was no wonder we did not arrive to start hiking from dicks creek gap until 7pm and it was nearly dark. Our original goal was going to hike to bly gap but due to such a late start we set out determined to find a spot to camp that would be fairly close to the drop off point because I do not like to hike in the dark unless it is an emergency because it has the potential to be very dangerous. We spotted one campsite at mile 0.5 but it was small and already occupied so we kept going until we reached mile 1.0 from the drop off point where there was a fairly large spot on the hill top on the right. There were a couple of guys already camping there in a hammock and tarp but they said they did mind if we set up a small tent and camped there too since it was a fairly large camping area. So we set up our tent then proceeded to cook dinner. However as we were starting to cook we began to see snow flakes fall and the temperatures began to drop with a cold wind blowing across the hill side. As quick as we ate, washed our dishes and hung our bear bags we decided to huddle in the tent to try to keep warm. I guess I forgot it was still winter at the end of march because I sure did not expect the snow to stick and when we awoke the next morning it was pretty cold at about 30 degrees and there was nearly an inch of snow on the ground.
