Trip Report: | G-Smit and I spent the previous night at the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite National Park after several days of backpacking and sightseeing in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. If you’re looking for a hotel of luxuries this isn’t the place for you, but we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out here. The wistful nostalgic feelings of yesteryear it conjures up are priceless. I would recommend staying here to anyone who doesn’t mind the idea of common bathhouses, no air conditioning, and paper-thin walls. Sounds appealing, doesn’t it? We slept in, leisurely made our way down to the free continental breakfast, strolled down to the general store for energy bars, headed back to the hotel to fill up our water bottles, and then set out for the trailhead. The hike to the top was tough, to say the least, but the views were rewarding. There is a restaurant at the top where we stopped to eat, but the food was way less than spectacular. Nonetheless, it provided us with the necessary energy to stomp out the 5-mile return trip, but not before capturing one of my favorite pictures of the two of us at the top of Glacier Point. |
