Trip Report: | G and I got up pretty early, had some coffee and breakfast, and then set out for the summit. Because of our proximity to the peak, we were the first to reach the top, and didn’t see anyone until we were on our way back down. This was fortunate because there was barely enough room at the top for the two of us to plop down our own glutei maximi. There was literally not enough room to turn around, but there was a small metal box set in a perfectly sized hole at the top that contained a register to sign our names. Interestingly enough, and for whatever reason, the box contained an unused prophylactic package. Go figure. We took a minute to sign our names, took in the 360-degree views, and then headed back down. Our original plan was to spend another night at Alta Meadow, but we decided to pack up and head to Panther Gap for our final night. The views at Panther Gap weren’t as nice, but we were glad we made the move. We ended up liking our cozy little camping spot, which only had enough room for one tent, and the change in scenery was refreshing. We had some noisy neighbors a few hundred feet away, who were a little bit annoying, but we went about our business, and settled into our tent for some reading, and ultimately dozed off for the night. |
