Trip Report: I caught a 9:44am flight this am to Baton Rouge and landed at the airport to find that National was out of rental cars. So I ended up getting a VW from Enterprise and drove four hours north to Monroe, LA by 3pm. After checking into the hotel, I headed to the Poverty Point Historic Park and toured half of a 2.6 mile loop past the Arkansas River and over some historic Indian mounds that were built before the time of Christ. It was warm out, but the hike was pleasant and not too taxing. The park closed at 5pm, but I ran into the ranger in the museum and he let me park outside the gate. By the time I finished the hike, I was the only one left in the park and it was really quite and peaceful with a nice breeze blowing out of the southwest. I decided to tag the Arkansas border (since I'm not sure I've been in that state before) and planted two feet just past the welcome sign. In June when we visit Hawaii, I will have set foot in every state in the United States.
