Too much attention to the A.T. could definitely be a bad thing, but I’d look forward to the movie. It doesn’t sound like it’s a done deal yet from what I have read – just likely to release in 2009:

The USFS 42 (0.9 miles from Springer) is definitely accessible via car, and someone can get you there. Check the ATC page for a list of shuttles:
Love ’em. Especially in ice/snow.
He just plead guilty and was sentenced. I expect they will get a conviction in the other cases as most sound very similiar to this one:

Based on what I’ve ready, I’m sold on ’em – especially in unfamiliar/remote terrain which is my favorite. Can’t say I’d use it in my backyard, though – ie. my home state of OH.
The soundtrack is up for a bunch of awards. I own it and can say it is pretty solid.
And the cops keep finding more deaths to link him to. Check this one out. I never even heard of this case and have hiked in the area frequently as my family has a mountain house near by:
BRYSON CITY, N.C. (AP) — The man charged in the beating death of a Georgia hiker is being looked at in the 2005 disappearance of a Florida woman who was hiking in western North Carolina (Related: Timeline Photo Gallery).
Investigators said 26-year-old Rossana Miliani was last seen in Bryson City on December 7th, 2005.
A store clerk from Bryson City recently told a private investigator that Miliani came into her store with a white man in his 60s and appeared nervous when they bought a backpack. The clerk contacted private investigator Steve Siske after reading about Miliani on the second anniversary of her disappearance.
Siske said he noticed case similarities when 61-year-old Gary Michael Hilton was arrested for the murder of 24-year-old Meredith Emerson, whose body was found in a national forest in the north Georgia mountains.
A spokeswoman with the State Bureau of Investigation confirmed Monday that agents are “considering the possibility of a connection,” but declined further comment.

BS, I like YourHikes.com just fine. I wouldn’t keep coming back if I didn’t. The forums are most interesting to me, but it’s all good. Nice job.
If they can power some multi-colored Christmas lights that I hope to fire up on New Years Eve, then I’ll have to make a trip to my local outfitter tomorrow and make a purchase. Hope to do some winter hiking to ring in the New Year, and enjoy some hot, alcohol laced beverages to take the bite out of old man winter.
Bear’s the man! Anyone that does a sumersault from an airplane into the middle of the Amazon jungle gets high marks in my mind.
Found some interesting photos from it:
My worst day on the trail was in North Carolina in the summer. It had rained three days straight, and it was very hot. I learned that : Hot + Wet + 35lbs. pack + slippery trail = misery. Somehow though we forget the pain and still head for the trail.
Apparently you need to start looking in Pennsylvania too:

Pa. hunter’s images stir Bigfoot debate
RIDGWAY, Pa. – It’s furry and walks on all fours. Beyond that, about the only thing certain about the critter photographed by a hunter’s camera is that some people have gotten the notion it could be a Sasquatch, or bigfoot. Others say it’s just a bear with a bad skin infection.
Rick Jacobs says he got the pictures from a camera with an automatic trigger that he fastened to a tree in the Allegheny National Forest, about 115 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, hoping to photograph deer.
“We couldn’t figure out what they were,” Jacobs said of the images captured on Sept. 16. “I’ve been hunting for years and I’ve never seen anything like this.”
He contacted the Bigfoot Research Organization, which pursues reports of a legendary two-legged creature that some people believe lives in parts of the U.S. and Canada.
“It appears to be a primate-like animal. In my opinion, it appears to be a juvenile Sasquatch,” said Paul Majeta of the bigfoot group.
However, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has a more conventional opinion. Agency spokesman Jerry Feaser said conservation officers routinely trap bears to be tagged and often see animals that look like the photos.
“There is no question it is a bear with a severe case of mange,” Feaser told The Bradford Era.
