Head to Deep creek. There are nice gravel trails that follow a creek where visitors enjoy tubing. For a little more adventure, drive past deep creek and hike the “road to no where” trails toward Forney creek area– just walking through the tunnel is awesome–make sure you bring a flashlight!

If you don’t mind a drive, I would recommend the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness area. There is a 2 mile loop that winds around some large deciduous trees and a great place for kids. It is located in Robinsville is about 45 minutes from Bryson City.

No problems at all. The park service is staff underpaid and the park systems, both federal and state, are underfunded.

I plan my trip around places that will allow dogs— No dogs no trip– well local only. I’m not crazy enough to put my dog on a plane!

I left the house Sept 8th for Wyoming an didn’t feel the need to shower until hitting the hotel Sept 15th. We hiked the Teton crest trail, my tentmate vowed never to stay in my tent again…. good stuff

will do, we’re heading up first weekend of November–we just got back from hiking the Teton Crest Trail (well part of it) Man what a trip! I’ve got the guidebooks and have been in communication with the author. They had a hiking club maintain the Fires Creek trail, but they stopped two years ago. We’re doing a 6 miles loop. Up Far Bald up to the rim trail and down another trail back to FS340. Looking forward to it, hopefullly we’ll get some snow–doubtful but possible!!!
