I personally do not like dogs. Sometimes they get on my nerves when they’re on the trail, but I understand that a lot of people love their dogs and consider them family members. Therefore, I say bring the dogs on! Just don’t cause me to step in any more doggie piles. I may just find out where you and your dog are camped at and leave you a pile of my own in front of your tent.
    Just kidding!

Don’t forget the Duncan Ridge Trail in GA. It’s very rugged. Like its name implies, it mainly follows the high ridgelines. You don’t get very many switchbacks to relieve you from the straight uphills and big downhills. You can usually see pretty far from the tops of the ridges this time of year, unless it’s early in the morning and the fog is still around. If you did the whole thing I think it would take about four days. I’m not sure.

I don’t see anything wrong with law-adiding citizens carrying guns anywhere. My state legislature is about to vote let us carry guns in our state parks, and I fully support that bill, especially since a young woman (hiking with just her pet dog) was killed recently by a serial killer in one of our more remote parks.

The way I see it, Les is more “practical,” but Bear is definately more entertaining. I think that if I found myself in a survival situation, I’d probably try to handle it more like Survivorman. In other words, I’d try to stay put, focusing on shelter, finding food and cooking it before I ate it, instead of trying to trek cross-country and eating live animals like Bear. That being said, I think that Man vs. Wild is the more entertaining and dramatic of the two shows. One thing I have noticed is that when Les Stroud eats something he’s found in the wilderness, he tastes it and makes these faces and noises that make it seem like he’s eating a gourmet meal. Bear Ghrylles, on the other hand, leaves no doubt that survival food is usually disgusting by making terrible faces and starts gagging and choking.
