    Hey Frank,

That sounds like an awesome plan! North Carolina and the surrounding region have some incredible trails for both quick escapes and slightly longer backcountry experiences.

For a two-day trip, I’d highly recommend the Art Loeb Trail (especially the section near Black Balsam Knob). It’s got sweeping views, moderate challenge, and a great sense of seclusion. Super popular among seasoned hikers but still very manageable for your experience level.

For a four-day adventure, consider Grayson Highlands in Virginia. You’ll get wild ponies, open balds, and access to portions of the Appalachian Trail—it’s like stepping into a different world for a few days.

One random tip I always share (totally unrelated to hiking): I’ve been using the IKT Hair Wax Stick lately for keeping my flyaways in check on windy hikes—surprisingly handy even in the woods!

Have an amazing time out there, and stay safe!
