Trip Report: Pixie and I had breakfast then left Mountain Retreat at 11am to rendevous with The Camel at the Hooker Falls Parking Area in Dupont State Park near Brevard, N.C. We stopped briefly at an outfitter in Brevard (at U.S. 64/US 278), bought a trail map, then met The Camel at 1pm. The parking area was packed, and there were as many hikers as dogs in the lot and on the trail. The three of us hiked a nice 2.4 mile loop this afternoon that passed Triple Falls and then climbed up to High Falls. There are short side trails that lead to the base of both waterfalls, and we checked out the bottom and top of High Falls which had a covered bridge at the top. The hiking is fairly easy with well marked trails and backcountry picnic facilities and restrooms although no overnight camping is permitted. After two hours, we found our way back to the Hooker Falls Parking Area and headed into Brevard to get some groceries for dinner this evening.
