Hello everyone! I have long been interested in why so many people are addicted to gambling, although many know that the chances of winning are small. Sometimes it seems that people just can’t stop, even if they lose money. I wonder why our brain is so drawn to these games? Are there any psychological explanations? Why do we feel that luck is about to turn its face to us? Maybe someone has read something on this topic and can explain it in simple words? I really want to understand why gambling is so tempting and why people can’t just stop playing.

Great question. It actually has to do with how our brains perceive randomness and try to find meaning in it. We tend to look for patterns, even if there aren’t any – for example, thinking that luck will come to us on a certain day or with a certain ritual. In addition, almost winning causes a strong release of dopamine, which makes us return to the game again and again. If you want, here is a good article on this topic: https://travelmax.in/recommendations/the-psychology-of-chance-why-we-enjoy-games-of-luck/ . It explains why gambling is so addictive and why people love games of chance so much.

The social side is also important – when players share stories about their “almost wins”, it creates a sense of unity and keeps the excitement going.

It is also interesting that time feels different during the game – it seems that less time has passed than in reality, and when you remember the session, it seems longer and brighter. Technology now makes gambling even more attractive: online casinos use sounds, visual effects and even artificial intelligence to hold attention and adapt to the psychology of the player.
