| Trip Report: | We were originally going to spend the morning completing a short mountain hike in the Chisos Mountains Lodge area (i.e. either the 5.6-mile roundtrip Window Trail or the 4.8-mile roundtrip Lost Mine Trail) and then swing by the Santa Elena Canyon trail in the afternoon on our way to Carlsbad, New Mexico. However, after a strenuous 14.5-mile hike through the Chisos Mountains the previous day, we opted to forego the mountain hike and head directly to Santa Elena Canyon. This was a short, easy hike, but we were pleasantly surprised by the stunning beauty of the canyon and the stark contrast from the previous day’s hike. We spent a little over an hour hiking in and out, snapping a few photos, and tooling around in the Rio Grande River. And of course a trip to the Rio Grande River wouldn’t be complete without a couple jokes about Trump’s proposed wall. Wrapped up and spent the next six hours or so driving to Carlsbad for the next day’s adventures. |
