Trip Report: | Today we went further on the trail and I got to do a lot of climbing on a few very slippy faces and get my feet wet. There was a bear hunt last week, and this week there was a hog hunt ongoing so there were no signs of either at all. The real treat were all the muscadines all over the place. Keep your eyes on the trail and when you see a big fat berry that resembles a grape, look up and figure out a way to get at the berries. It may involve climbing a tree or two, but that's just part of the fun. Once you get to the first falls, swing left and go uphill, there is a trail of sorts through the brush that is rugged but safe for young ones, just keep a safety below them. As you swing around, get some bouldering in one a couple of boulders in the stream (slippy), and work your way on the left side and you'll be rewarded with a great waterfall and all the water you can filter. There is a big flat rock to take a break on, or if the hammock is still in place try it out (I'm surprised nobody has taken the rope). We did run up a copperhead, and a yellow ring neck. Left the copperhead alone and took some pics. There are three water crossings to get to the upper falls, with stone "bridges" to keep everyone dry (no fun in that). |
