Trip Report: |
I decided to do a quick hike after the boy scout fall camporee before going home to stretch my legs and I was curious to see if they had ever fixed the bridge next to the boat dock yet or not. Well, I arrived at the park around 11:00 in the morning and took a few pictures before hitting the trail. To my surprise there were quite a few people hiking this trail considering it was dreary with spotty showers, fog and somewhat cold. the trail starts next to the parking area by the boat dock and the old bridge which is still not fixed. It goes out about a mile where it splits from the pioneer short loop portion of the trail at the swinging bridge about a 1/2 mile later you come to a road with a bridge that you must cross to get to the other side of the river that feeds the lake and the rest of the trail. There are a couple of small foot bridges over some old springs on this section of the trail before it joins back up with the pioneer short loop trail at the other side of the swinging bridge. From here it is a mile back to the bridge that used to cross the lake at the boat dock but since it is not repaired you must take the other trail which continues on around the lake back to the road crosses the dam and then back to the parking area by the boat dock once again. This is a great hike for beginners as there is very little elevation change and it is only three miles normally. |
