Trip Report: Great hike! Recommend the first 5 miles for family hikes from Childer's Creek to Big Bend parking area.
Soloed the remaining 15 miles and got a great workout. Trail is moderate in some areas but mostly rated at easy. Light traffic to the powerhouse and then I had the forest to myself. Ranger said there are a lot of bear harvest in the area but bears have been behaving nicely. Rangers at Lost Corral campground very helpful and offered more information than I asked for. Ranger Station didn't have maps so be sure to bring one along.

Cell phone reception: terrible except on one very high rockface.

Cold temps today and was fine in a watch cap, long sleeve t-shirt, and light fleece after the first mile the heavier fleece went into my pack.

First hike in new Merrell Continuom Mid Hikers and feet are tired but unscathed. Shoes also held up to a bit of climbing on sharp rock formations along the way. Recommend good ankle supporting Gore-Tex waterproof boots as my feet did get wet on this trail.
Go Lite LITE-SPEED PACK http://www.golite.com/product/productdetail.aspx?p=PA5255&s=1&e=8&ch=1 was awesome and I'm sold on going light on distance hikes.

GPS indicated distance traveled 23 miles but I did a bit of sidetracking up the hills to rock formations. GPS reception: Tracking satellites every time I looked at it today, even in dense tree cover (Magellan Map330)
