Trip Report: Hiked along the river to the viewing platform for the Upper Falls. Had a great group. We had 7 guests/new members who had never been hiking before. They did incredibly well. We didn't stop for a snack break until we got to the platform. The SC/Duke Power part of the trail had been cleaned up since the winter bad weather. However, we had to scramble over downed trees and blow downs on the NC side. Someone needs to go in there with a BIG chainsaw. Also on the NC side after you cross the river and start up the incline to the falls, someone, I assume a volunteer, has built a set of steps. These steps are tilted in such a weight they are dangerous. When you are going down, your heal is a couple of inches lower than your toes and there is a huge gap between each step. These steps really need to be replaced or repaired.
