Trip Report: |
The trip was amazing, a fall day, the first real cool one of the season. It was a Saturday so no mountain bikes were allowed. This made for a great hike even though I'm a mountain biker too. I found that the trails designated for both mountain bikers and hikers were in far better condition than the trails designated for hikers solely. The hikers only trails were much steeper, and much rootier and rockier. The average speed dramatically slowed on these sections. There were no views at this time of year. Occasionally I could catch a view of the mountains through the trees but other than that it was just black gum, and chestnut oak hardwood species. I hiked past a few lakes that were very pretty and very clear. There were campsites around them, and if I came back to camp I'd for sure bring a fishing pole. I would rate this a must do at least once. I can understand how someone actually from Greenville would get tired of this place but for someone not from there this was a good hike. I want to complete the side trails that I didn't complete. |
