Encouraged the wife and kids to go out and brave the elements with me on this hike along the brutally frigid cold lake shore. They bailed about 20 minutes in, but I don’t blame them. With temperatures already down near the single digit range, the hostile winds blowing in off of the lake had to put the wind chill down into the negative teens or worse. I continued to trudge onward after we said our goodbyes, and was amazed at how much warmer it seemed to get the further away from the lake I got. Once I crossed a certain point where it seemed as though the winds had died down, I ended up capturing some good pictures of the native wildlife. It was interesting to note that there seemed to be a distinctive line along the trail where the wind dropped off dramatically, and the animals weren’t present or active on that side of the line closest the lake. I guess there’s no reason to assume that they aren’t aware of the wind chill factor too. |

Funny. You’re probably right.
That squirrell’s so fat that I bet he was warmer than your kids.
