Trip Report: | Met up with Metro-Sethro at the old office location around 5:45 am. Actually, I was on time, but Metro didn’t roll in until around 6:15. After the 1 hour, 45 minute drive to the trailhead, we stepped out into the frigid cold. We were supposed to meet up with Dan-O around 8:00, but it took a few phone calls to confirm he was coming. Dan-O showed up around 8:30 with his cross-country skis, and after a brief bit of catching up, we were on the trail. Hiked the outer Plateau Trail, Metro and I in our snowshoes, and Dan-O on his skis, then stopped at the car for a quick snack and Dan-O slipped out of his skis. We then continued on and completed the inner Oak Hill Trail. By the time we wrapped up, it was close to noon, and Dan-O could feel the beck and call of his newborn child and wife at home. Metro and I headed over to the Winter Sports Center at the Kendall Lake Shelter to see what it was all about. It was a nice enough place and they had plenty of snowshoes and cross-country skis available for rental. The staff was friendly and there was plenty of free hot drinks to go around. However, as much as we liked the free part, it wasn’t hot drinks we were in search of. As such, we hightailed it back to Peninsula for a pit stop at Century Cycles and then next door to the Winking Lizard for a couple cold barley pops. All in all a good trip and it was good to catch up with Dan-O since we hadn’t seen him for awhile. |
