Trip Report: |
At the back of the Mortimer campground is the trail head for Thorps Creek trail with a sign that it is maintained by a local boy scout troop. It starts out flat and wide next to a small creek and can be quite deceiving because after two miles you pass the 15 foot water fall and then the trail turns into a winding trail that narrows with lots of rocks and roots as it becomes a fairly steep climbing nearly 1250 feet to the top of the mountains. Of course the rocks do provide great places to sit and take a break or relaxing a bit while enjoying the views. The trail is approximately 4.5 miles long and it utilizes a portion of the Schoolhouse Ridge trail so you need to be sure not to take a wrong turn and bring along plenty of water because it is a heck of a climb up to the top which will wear out even some of the fittest hikers before looping back to the Mortimer camping area close to where it began. |
