Trip Report: I started off this trip going in the wrong direction. The trailhead we were supposed to go was on the north side of the parking lot and I took the southern most trailhead. This day started off foggy and ended up raining and hailing. The shortoff trail is a very strenuous trail and is not very smooth. It is pretty clear to follow, but you are constantly climbing up and down rocks. There are not many places to get water, so be sure to bring in your own. The trail is so windy, that even using a compass did not help as we were at times seemingly going in the right direction. I've heard that this area is tricky and people get lost all of the time. In fact, they used to drop service men in the gorge to practice their survival skills and map reading abilities. As much as I love this area, and have been back many times, it is unforgiving. Visit here with caution.
