Trip Report: Started the day at the tent campsite where I set up camp at site #5. After getting everything arranged I then checked out the area before hiking up to the Mt. Mitchell observation tower. It was a nice day, sunny, warm with a few clouds and not too much wind. This being my first time to Mt. Mitchell State Park I didn't want to venture to far off the beaten path. After about a half hour hike to the top, I climbed the tower to get the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. What a view it was, I would recommend this to anyone. After the hike back to camp and getting some chow, I enjoyed the sunset on an adjacent hill. The night was cool, and there were no clouds to obscure the full moon. The park provides fire pits, which is a good idea for those cooler nights. There were only two other sites occupied during my stay and trail traffic was sparse. Will definitely do again!
