Trip Report: |
I love this hike and the views are great. There are tons of small waterfalls and remains of houses from long ago. The Grassy Gap Fire Road is easy to follow and an even grade. The Basin Creek Trail is another story. The trail was very rough and very hilly. You can tell that many people turn around after a few miles by the lack of trail clarity and very few, if any, blazes. The trail crosses Basin Creek many times, and I often got lost for a short distance. After back-tracking a number of times to find the trail again, the hike turned out to be more like 12 miles than 10 miles. I certainly am not complaining, since there was no one else on the trail. Just be sure that you can keep a cool head and be willing to back-track often. The views and solitude are well worth it. |
