Trip Report: Did this hike with the Columbia Outdoors Group. The group consisted of good strong experienced hikers. The weather started cloudy then rained on us most of the whole hike. We were off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The views were amazing. The trailhead was overlooking a grassy balk. Similar to views out west. The trail went across a grassy plain and then went to the top of Sam knob (6,212 ft). The clouds were blowing over the tops of the mountains creating some interesting views. The rest of the hike didn't have much elevation change. The trails were really muddy, and almost creeks and ponds in some places. Once the rain set in, the view was non-existent due to the clouds, Thankfully I had good wet weather clothes and stayed mostly dry. I cooked lasagna in the rain under the semi-cover of some spruce trees. Definitely worth doing again when the weather is more cooperative.
