Trip Report: | Worked out of the downtown office this morning, then Ray rode with me to the airport for a 2:30pm flight to Kansas City. We got in around 3:39pm but took two separate rental cars and are staying in different hotels since I am flying back home from Springfield. Picked up a GPS from National today, and this turned out to be a major benefit. I had two hours to get some exercise, and punched up all the parks between the airport and the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown. Found a nice city park along the Missouri River, and was able to get in about 1.5 miles on a loop trail along the water before a major thunderstorm caught me. Ran the last 0.25 miles to the Saturn SUV, and managed to avoid getting soaked. There were tons of walkers and runners using the walkway tonight, and many kids and families playing in the park. By the time I left the parking area, however, the place was deserted in advance of the storm. Headed for the hotel in miserable weather, and checked in before dark. Ray called this evening and his plans with his family that fell through. So I put on some jeans and met him in the lobby for a few complimentary beers. We caught the hotel shuttle from there to a nice restaurant/sports bar in a tourist area near the downtown area and watched some of the NBA playoffs. |
