Trip Report: | Spent the night at the Hana Kai Maui. Got up early and headed to Koki Beach for some morning surfing lessons with Keli Everett, which was a great experience by the way. Keli was a great instructor, and Koki beach was beautiful in its own right. After the surfing lessons, we hiked a short trail to a red sand beach, then made a stop at the Venus Pool for some homemade snow cones and cliff jumping. We then made our way to Haleakala National Park for this hike. Our plan was to hike a side trail off the Pipiwai Trail to the top of the Falls at Makahiku to a small pool we had read about, which has been referred to as a natural infinity pool. However, with three teenagers and one grandmother in tow, we ultimately deemed it to be too dangerous and risky, and as such, decided it best to heed the park’s warnings. Finished up the hike, and made our way back to the Hana Kai Maui, but not before making another stop at the Venus Pool for some more cliff jumping. This turned out to be a great decision, since we ended up having the place completely to ourselves. |
