Trip Report: This probably was not the best day to stop and hike this trail because it had started to storm. But my curiosity and love of hiking made me stop and explore the trail anyways. Just as we were pulling into the parking area it started lightning and I recall my husband asking Conner about the effects of lateral lighting as I exited the car. Me and Conner were the only two brave enough to attempt the hike because of the weather, altitude and thin air. The trail is only a mile long and is paved but it climbs up a very steep mountain top to an overlook and it was starting to rain with occasional lighting in the distance. There are a lot of signs along the way to stop and read along the way which give you a chance to stop and catch your breath and learn some interesting facts about the area. After about the third sign Conner decided to go back to the car and give up because he said the trail was kicking his butt. At this point I could see the fog starting to roll in as I started up the trail about ten to fifteen minutes latter it was so foggy that I could no longer see the car as I climbed higher and higher towards the rocks and outlook it became so foggy that I actually could not see my hand in front of my face. Finally I reached the outlook but could see nothing but fog and a glimpse of the black asphalt trail under my feet. It was quite eerie but I followed the black pavement back down to the car as fast as I could. The ride back to camp was very dangerous because the road that goes through the rocky mountains is very steep with lots of rocks or large drop offs which make it dangerous in the fog to drive. There were a couple of spots where we could not see anything but we held on and prayed then finally we found a break in the storm and descended out of the clouds to safety of our campsite at timber creek. That was probably the most daring hike and harrowing ride I have ever taken in my life but it was well worth it.
