Trip Report: It was a typical hot fall day when we stopped off at the Garden of the Gods to hike. Since my daughter that was pregnant was with us on this trip, we decided to do an easy trail that was only a mile long called the Perkins Central Garden Trail. The rocks in the Garden of the Gods were unlike any others I had ever seen before in my life. They jutted up in all sorts of weird shapes and were red like in the cartoon for Wylie coyote and the road runner. The trail we choose was an easy trail that starts from the parking area next to the bathrooms and was paved with rocks and bricks. It went through the heart of the park and circled back to the parking area. It was approximately a mile long but took us an hour because we took our time stopping to explore and enjoy the view of the various rock formations and the spot where an old building used to be but now it only has the foundation left and a fire ring in the middle. I guess this park is a hot spot for rappelling because we got to see several groups of people rappelling off the various rock formations while we were there. The large sign that was on the side of one rock formation gave the history of the park and how the land was donated to the city of Colorado Springs by a family but that it would forever be free for the public to see. There is also a visitors center where you can get something to eat or drink and buy souvenirs. Overall it is a great place to visit and very unique.
