Trip Report: | Memorial Day weekend. It was great cool weather to hike in, but when I got up to the false peak I was engulfed in a thick cloud that soon started dropping little snowballs the size of BB's. I stubbornly (and quite stupidly) went ahead and climbed the cables to the peak. The rock face was slick from the melting of snow falling all around me. I must say this is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever done in my life. I’m more happy about living to see another day than proud of hiking Half Dome. Some of the nice parts about the foul weather was very few people on the trail and it made for crisp, clean air. The Nevada Falls were quite magnificent from the vantage point along the John Muir Trail (longer hike) section. I look forward to tackling this gorgeous peak again someday, and next time I’ll wait for good weather. |
