Had a morning meeting in La Jolla, but finished up around 11am and drove about fifteen minutes to Torrey Pines State Park along the Pacific Ocean. Rumor was that there were some well managed trails here along the steep cliffs with panoramic views to the water. This turned out to be accurate, with many desert flowers blooming this time of year. Parked across from the visitor’s center, and descended a few hundred feet to Razor Point for about a mile. There were a lot of people on the trails this afternoon, but I managed to score some solo time at both viewpoints including Yucca Point. There is a nice State beach below the cliffs and many people (including a group of school kids) were taking advantage of the warm temps. It was breezy, though, and cool enough that I was glad to have a windbreaker while checking the views from the platform. Hiked back to the parking area after about an hour, then made a short trip to the visitor’s center to see the exhibits. There is also an impressive view to the east of the populated valley of La Jolla/San Diego which was a major contract to the views to the west. Made a brief stop at the beach at the base of the cliffs, then drove 2+ hours back to the LAX area for a meeting in the morning. |
