Trip Report: | The Sims Trail bisects the boardwalk loop and is a little less traveled. This is also a dog-friendly hike. Gotta love taking our canine friends along, right? Sure thing! I like this hike because it is different from all other hikes in Congaree National Park. If you follow the 'plan' and use the Bluff Trail and Sims Trail as an in-and-out, you'll only be on a boardwalk for about 20 yards near the old ranger station, avoiding boardwalk traffic that can get fairly heavy during spring, early summer, and fall. Yep, it's a good alternative route to get down to Cedar Creek, and there's a lot of pretty cool things to see down there. Your dogs will like it too. You can shorten the dog-friendly hike by starting at the Harry Hampton Visitors Center. Start on the elevated boardwalk and descend the stairs at the first big tree. The dog trail continues left to the junction of Sims Trail. |
