| Trip Report: | Day three consists mostly of an uneventful climb up to Boulderfield, the third and last backcountry campsite, situated at elevation 12,760 feet. However, shortly after making a turn to the south in the early part of the day, Longs Peak inconspicuously slips into view, almost sinister like, and looms there for the remainder of the day as a menacing foreshadow of the following day’s quest. Boulderfield is a unique campsite located above timberline in rocky terrain. It contains a number of waist-high rock rings in which overnight camps are to be established. There are two privies, and water is available at the campsite from Boulder Brook, which runs a couple feet below and in between the boulders. Third Day Starting Elevation = 10,200 feet Ending Elevation = 12,760 feet High Point Elevation = 12,760 feet Total Distance = 4.8 miles |
