Trip Report: | I did this hike from Rock Harbor in May of 1995 using the trails described in the listing, after a 1-day layover at Rock Harbor Campground. The reason for the layover was to rest because I had just hiked from Windigo on the Feldtman and Greenstone Ridges. After the nice 1-day rest, I was ready to do some fast hiking. I had no choice. I had a boat to meet back at Windigo in only 4 days! So off I went, and made it to McCargoe Cove the 1st day, Todd Harbor the 2nd day, Lake Desor the 3rd day, and then to Windigo the 4th day. I had to nearly run the 12 miles from Desor Lake to make the boat, but I made it just in time. Obviously, I should have planned better to allow an extra day to do this hike, in fact, I would recommend 6 days to anyone who would like to do it. 4 days would be plenty if you just want to do the Minong Ridge from McCargoe Cove to Windigo. Even though I did this hike pretty quickly, It was still an awesome experience. McCargoe Cove campground was a highlight. Just a really cool place to spend the night. |
