Trip Report: It was after 9am before the first person was up this morning. We cooked up some instant eggs and oatmeal for breakfast, packed up, then headed for the Browns Mountain spur trail which is a 0.5 mile side-hike to a 1045' peak. The firetower has been removed from the summit and there are limited views, but we wanted to check out the highest point on the Kings Mountain Trail. When we arrived, turkey vultures were circling in mass and riding thermals from the valley below. Steve C. watched our gear while we made the side trip, then we hiked back to the trailhead at Kings Mountain National Park by 1:30pm. The Camel was pleased that they had a short drive home for a change. It took me three hours to get back to Atlanta in light traffic but it was a beautiful day for driving.
