Trip Report: Drove to the church to meet BSA Troop 623 by 1:30pm today since they are training for a summer trip to Philmont and had a 5+ mile loop hike planned over Kennesaw Mountain. We drove to the visitor's center of the national battlefield and started the hike within the hour. There were a lot of people (and dogs) on the trails this afternoon with great spring weather for hiking. The older Scouts (led by Mike) pulled away from David and I as we walked with his younger son. So we took a short-cut over Little Kennesaw Mountain to catch up with the pack. At the ridgeline, I took a lengthy break, and decided to split from the group to take the road back to the visitor's center. The Troop climbed over Kennesaw Mountain, then finished the loop hike in about 2 1/2 hours.
