| Trip Report: | 10/10/98: I was up early to join Sam Janetta and a few others for a morning golf outing that was part of his bachelor party. It was chilly at the tee off, but warmed up by noon. The Pixie picked me up around 12pm at the golf course, and I was glad to call it a day. Had a tough morning on the front nine, and skipped out of about four holes on the back. Drove to the trailhead at the Reece Memorial Parking Area by 3pm. Had nice weather for a loop hike around Blood Mountain today. There were many day hikers on the trail, particularly on the AT portion. The Pixie was having trouble with her pack which was causing some back pain, so we decided to skirt the summit and hike Blood Mountain tomorrow. Rebel fully enjoying himself on the trail, and there were plenty of other dogs for him to meet on the hike. The Pixie had to tie him up at dinner so we could cook, then we enjoyed a nice campfire along the Slaughter Gap Trail where we camped near a stream. The campsite was just down from Slaughter Gap (which was heavily occupied) and in an area where campfires are permitted. The Pixie and I were in the bags early tonight by 9:30pm and Rebel sacked out at our feet. 10/11/98: The pooch was up early today, and we had to let him out of the tent to get some sleep. The Pixie and I finally hit the trail by 10am and we climbed to the shelter and overlook at Blood Mountain where we took a long break. There were a number of other hikers at the rock outcropping and we spoke briefly with them. Hiked down the Appalachian Trail to the parking area by 12:30pm. We only had breakfast bars this morning, so a quick stop at the DQ was in order in route to Atlanta. |
