Trip Report: |
It was an absolutely beautiful winter day for a hike. Nice and cold though! We started the trail fairly late (because we got lost), which worked out well, gave it a chance to warm up some. The hike begins just above the Dicks Creek Bridge, which really isnt much of a bridge and very very easy to miss. The mountain laurel looks like it would be very thick here in the spring and summer. We started along Dicks Creek and eventually joined the Broad River. It was so much fun climbing on the rocks along the edge of the river. The overhangs are beautiful. I loved how the entire trail follows the rivers, nothing like the sound of the flowing water. There were several wonderful places to hang out on the rocks and take a break. Our breaks were short however due to the cold! You'll notice that you hike through several different environments based on how close they are to the river. The scenery changes dramatically as you reach the end of the trail. Its definately worth the extra distance to hike the trail back to your car instead of hiking on the fire road. |
