Hike Summary: Hike began in the afternoon, the trails are mostly raised boardwalk due the ground below. The boardwalks wind through thick forests and open prarries. The dampness of the forest and the local weather keep the boardwalks pretty slick in spots. The Ozette trail opens up to the beach after about 3 miles in. Then you can choose to head south 17.1 miles along the coast to Rialto Beach (several backcountry sites, reservations required), or north 3 miles to Cape Alava. Cape Alava also holds the title as the most western point in the lower 48. After hiking the beach, then you travel back into the forest 3.1 miles to the ranger station on mostly boarwalk. Overall a nice loop, the beach hiking can be difficult in spots. Make sure you know the local tide table before hiking the beach, some points are only passible at low tide. These areas usually have a inland pass.
