Directions: From Fort Stockton, take US-385 South for approximately 125 miles to the Panther Junction Visitor Center and turn right on Gano Springs. Travel just over 3 miles and turn left onto Basin Junction. Drive another 6.5 miles to the Chisos Mountains Lodge area.

Hike Summary: Big Bend has more than 150 miles of trails for both day hikes and backpacking trips, with approximately 20 of those miles being in the Chisos Mountains. Elevations throughout the park range from 1,800 feet along the Rio Grande to 7,832 feet atop Emory Peak. This range in elevation provides for a wide variety of plants, scenic vistas, and hiking opportunities, including desert, river, and mountain hikes. This particular hike was a strenuous, but beautiful hike through the Chisos Mountains, including a summit of Emory Peak and a visit to the breathtaking views of the South Rim.
