Hike Summary: | Old South Mac trail starts near picnic shelter C. It is an out and back trail that is 2.75 miles each way with an elevation gain of aproximatley 1800 feet. There is an old CCC dynamite shack along the trail and a few streams that you can filter water from if needed. The trail is considered easy to moderate depending on your physical abilities. There are quite a few rocks and roots along this trail so you should keep that in mind. The trail ends aproximatley .8 tenths of a mile from the look out tower and .3 tenths from the tub springs campsite. If you decide you want to take a different way back you can always take the spicewood trail or the north old mac trail for some different scenery. |
