Hike Summary: | Beginning at the parking area on Horsepasture rd, head west on the Foothills Trail. The trail crosses over dry ridges for the first couple miles, and then descends into the valley among rhododendron thickets. It the follows the creek, crossing several bridges, and arrives at Virginia Hawkins after descending down a section of stairs. Another option to shorten the hike to 1 mile is to park up Horsepasture rd 3.8 miles at where it splits. The parking area is on the left. Walk up the road that split to the far right a .25 mile to where the Foothills crosses and turn left. |
