Hike Summary: | This moderately strenuous, well-marked 4.2-mile loop starts from the Meeting House in Keowee-Toxaway State Natural Area. (There is limited parking up the hill past the meeting house.) You will begin your hike on the Natural Bridge Trail and will turn right onto the Raven Rock Trail after approx .8 miles. You will ascend and descend around McKinney Mountain to a rocky area near the top where you will be treated to a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west while surrounded by mountain laurel, blueberries, and Bowman’s root. Continuing, you will come to another vista that overlooks Lake Keowee, then begin a steep descent to the lakeshore. From here you will begin a steep ascent over stone ridges with excellent views of the lake, then descend to Poe Creek. Boulders in the creek provide a way to cross Poe Creek where you will rejoin the Natural Bridge Trail for your return. |
