| Hike Summary: | The Corridor Trail connects Pilot Mountain- Mountain section and Pilot Mountain- River section and makes a great day hike. It is a horse/hiking trail that leads down to the Yadkin River. I went during the fall, so there were some great views of Pilot Mountain through the trees along the trail. It was a nice hike if you are looking for some exercise and fresh air. If you begin at the mountain section, it starts off going mostly downhill for about 1.5 miles on the Spring Ledge Trail. You then connect to the Mountain Ridge Trail and continue down the mountain side for about 2 miles. It then levels out after crossing the first road, which is the begining of the 6.5 mile Corridor Trail. You can then continue for about 3 more miles if you want to hike to the yadkin River. Some parts of the trail were tricky to follow, as there were no visible markers in areas and the trail itself was unclear. I had gone off the trail at times, but I made it through without too much difficulty. There were some beautiful sights (paths lined with tall pines, stream crossings) and then there were views of backyard properties and fields of crops. The park at both ends has some incredible sights of the pinnical at the mountain and of the Yadkin river. It can make for a long day hike (about 20 miles there and back) or a one way hike with a shuttle back. There are also campsites at either end to stay overnight at. Reccommended if you are visiting or live in the area. |
