Hike Summary: | I did this short hike in April 07. I took the Old Road Gap Trail to County Corners on the Fires Creek Rim Trail. I had intended to hike the entire Rim Trail but weather turned ominous and I cut across the Fires Creek basin by descending on the Little Fires Creek Trail and going back up the Trail Ridge Trail to Big Stamp. That was a tough ascent! I circled back to County Corners and back down the Old Road Gap Trail. Maintenance on the trails was decent although I have been up here in summer when the briars were a bit bothersome. I actually ran into 3 ladies on horses who had a pruning saw and were cutting and clearing as they went. Potrock Bald was a very beautiful panoramic view. I use the guidebooks by John Ray which have been mentioned elsewher on this site. Very helpful, maybe essential for those not familiar with the area. |
