Hike Summary: | Start at Longbotton Road and hike on a wide, even fire road. Follow Basin Creek, and within 3/4 of a mile, you will start seeing small waterfalls. At about 1.5 miles, you will pass a campsite on the left side. A few hundred feet up, you come to a trail junction with the Basin Creek Trail starting on the right. Take this trail, crossing the creek multiple times, until you get to the end of the trail (5 miles) at Caudill Cabin. This trail passes many remains of many chimneys. The area was inhabited by a community of settlers after the Civil War in the late 1800's. It had gotten big enough to include a post office. In the early 1900's, a flood had destroyed all but a few remains, that still stand today. |
